BARRY’S BAY: Terry Fox’s spirit will live on in Barry’s Bay on Sunday.

The annual Terry Fox Run to support cancer research is back.

Participants can register, starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Lakeshore Tennis Club. They can then walk, run or cycle the course between 9 a.m. and noon.

The event was held differently over the past two years, with participants running in isolation, due to the pandemic.

The return to normalcy this year, seems to have excited the community, said organizer Colette Mantifel.

The event has already raised more than $1,000 in pledges, eclipsing last year’s total of around $500.

Mantifel says she expects to have at least 60 people taking part in the run. She also said it’s therapeutic for people who have been touched by cancer to be in groups and celebrate Terry Fox.

She added that this year’s run marks the 41st time the event has been held in Barry’s Bay, a testament to the iconic cancer fundraiser’s legacy.
