The provincial government says it is continuing to expand its investments in high-speed internet access to rural Ontario.

The government has pledged over $1.2 billion in funding to broadband companies to help expand their services. The government says that this will connect some 266,000 homes and businesses to better internet.

The announcement includes all of Renfrew County and North Hastings, with the lion’s share of the funding, $483.8 million, going to Bell Canada to assist with building the new network. Cogeco Connexion and Rogers Communications will also be doing work in our region.

The province says that the municipalities, provincial funding amounts, and the number of underserved areas are all subject to change.
