The OPP detachments in Renfrew County are warning people of several active investigations into fraud involving firewood. An online ad for firewood is placed on social media, and the suspect e-transfers the money. Once the deposit is made, the seller disappears without delivering any firewood.
Police urge the public to be cautious about sending money before receiving goods you buy online. They also add never to trust extremely low or high offers, be on the lookout for people who use urgency during online transactions, and know the market value of the product you are buying or selling.
