South Algonquin will be holding a day to get rid of your dead batteries.

They are holding a Household Hazardous Waste Day at the Lester B. Smith Community Centre in Whitney. It will happen on August 6th from 9 AM until 1 PM.

Township staff ask residents to mark all materials clearly, do not mix materials, and keep them in the trunk of their car. They say to keep leaky containers wrapped in plastic and to wash hands thoroughly after handling chemicals.

Accepted items include automotive and garage parts, household cleaning products, paint-related materials, pesticides and gardening products. Propane cylinders, pharmaceuticals, nail polish and pool chemicals are also accepted, so long as chemicals are not mixed together.

The Municipality will not be accepting commercial, industrial, radioactive, PCB, biological or institutional waste. Explosives, fireworks, ammunition, tires or old electronics will not be accepted either.
