Deadline to apply for municipal election candidacy one month away

You’re running out of time to put your name on the ballots in the upcoming election in Madawaska Valley.

Municipalities are accepting candidacy paperwork until August 19th.

In order to run in Madawaska Valley, you need to be at least 18 years old, be a Canadian citizen, and either lives in the municipality or be married to someone who does.

If you or your spouse own or rent a property in the municipality, but don’t live in it, you’re also eligible as long as you meet the other criteria. People banned from voting aren’t allowed to run.

In Madawaska Valley, all current councillors have decided to seek another term in office. Carl Bromwich, David Shulist, Mark Willmer and Ernie Peplinski have all registered to run. They will be taken on by newcomers Helen Benn, Joseph Olsheski, Mary Blank and Kenton Biffert. No one has put their name in to run as mayor. David F. Kaiser has applied to run as the English Public School Board Trustee, while Mervin Paul Merkowsky and Susan Artymko are in the running for the English Catholic School Board trustees
