Hastings County public school board looking at combining five elementary schools into two

The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board is looking to address enrollment needs for elementary and secondary schools in North Hastings.

According to the draft Long Term Capital Accommodation Plan, the board is considering housing the area’s five elementary schools in two buildings.

This could mean students from Coe Hill and Hermon Public Schools are moved to the York River Public School, and students from Maynooth Public School are moved to Bird’s Creek Public School.

A grade seven to 12 model is also being considered for North Hastings High School, which would not change the scenario, but would reduce the required size for the combined schools.

The board has yet to make any final decisions, and is asking the public for input by June 10th.
