There is a new head at the Catholic College in Barry’s Bay.

Dr. Chrstine Schintgen has been appointed as President of the college, starting July 1st. She will be serving a three-year term. Schintgen has been serving as Interim President since July 2020.

Schintgen says the position of President is demanding, but highly rewarding and is excited to begin important work at the college.

Acting Chair of the Board Deacon Robert Probert says Schingtgen is a passionate advocate for the College’s mission of combining the liberal arts with the church. He adds she has extensive academic experience in both teaching and administration.

Schintgen has been with the College since 2003 and was one of its original faculty members. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with highest honours from Carleton University, and a Master of Philosophy in Victorian Studies from Oxford University.

Other moves in College leadership were also announced. Deacon Probert will be stepping down from the board of directors. He will be replaced by Dr. Keith Cassidy, who was president of the school from 2009 until 2019.

College staff say they have immediate priorities for the new administration, including pursuing accreditation to allow the institution to offer a four-year Bachelor of Arts Degree. They also plan to strengthen the governance of the College, foster a positive work environment, enhance their institutional profile, ensure financial sustainability, expand campus infrastructure, and enhance the quality of life for students.
