The local fire department is asking people to keep an eye out for anything unusual.

Madawaska Valley Fire Cheif Cowin Quade says since early May, there have been seven fires that the department has deemed suspicious, with a number of them starting in ditches.

Quade asks residents to contact them if they have seen anything out of the ordinary at the fires’ locations.

The news comes as the department has answered seven calls for service since Friday. These include five separate bush fires on Paugh Lake, Matcheski, Stanley Olsheski, Kuiack Lake and Opeongo Roads. The fire on Paugh Lake Road was started in a pine plantation about 50 feet away from where a similar fire occurred on May 10th.

Firefighters were also called to an injured dirt bike rider on Bark Lake Dam Road. Renfrew County Paramedics and firefighters carried out an individual after they went over a 100-foot embankment. The person suffered lower leg injuries as a result.
