We may be seeing the designs for a new Lakeshore Park as soon as the fall.

Madawaska Valley Council has approved a company to begin the design process. Beacon Environmental Limited is a Canadian company that says they specialize in high-quality environmental assessments. The company, which has offices in Peterborough and Bracebridge, has designed parks in Cambridge, Lafontaine, Port Perry, Mississauga, and Ottawa.

Beacon’s proposal outlined a few goals they want to achieve with the park. These include improving vehicle parking, improving the design of the park, upgrading playground equipment, and incorporating several “climate-smart” features to help the local environment.

Councillor Mark Wilmer, who heads the Recreation and Community Development Committee, hopes to see a completed plan by September. Public input will continue to be gathered, with township staff saying they have already received a lot of input from the community.
