Local Council of Canadians chapter bringing nuclear waste site concerns to County

The nuclear waste burial site at Chalk River may have County approval, but a local chapter of the Council of Canadians wants to change that.

Warden Debbie Robinson and several County Councilors signed a petition earlier this year in support of the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ plan to build a near surface nuclear waste disposal site. However, the Kitchissippi-Ottawa Valley Chapter of the Council of Canadians wants to bring up additional facts and viewpoints, and says there is more to the project than what the County has been told.

The Council of Canadians Chapter will send a delegation to the County’s Development and Property Committee meeting scheduled for May 10th. The group will send its Lead on Nuclear Waste Issues Ann Pohl, as well as its Co-Spokesperson Ian Pineau.
