St. Francis Hospital, Valley Manor acquire land to expand healthcare hub

The healthcare hub in Barry’s Bay has just gotten a little bit bigger.

Both the St. Francis Memorial Hospital and the Valley Manor have acquired a 26-acre plot of land next to their campus and the location of the new Valley Manor redevelopment.

The land was previously owned by the Shalla family, who wanted it to be made available to both the Hospital and the Manor. With the help of Dr. Joe Cybulski, the partners worked with Madawaska Valley Township to acquire the land. CEO of the Manor Trish DesLaurier says their support was instrumental in securing both this property and the former Sherwood Public School land.

CEO of St. Francis Julia Boudreau says this secures the future of the healthcare hub in the region. As the Ministry of Health makes healthcare collaboration a priority, the land purchase allows both the Manor and Hospital to expand together. Both DesLaurier and Boudreau say there are a lot of ideas floating around for what the land could be used for, but for now, it is an investment in the future of healthcare in the area.

DesLaurier and Boudreau say it’s an exciting day in healthcare, and thank everyone who brought it all to fruition. In addition, they cannot express how thankful they are to the Shalla family, who have left a mark on healthcare for future generations.
