$10 a day childcare will be here by 2025, and parents should start seeing savings soon.

That’s according to Laura Lepine, Director of Community Services with the County of Renfrew, which manages childcare in the region. Lepine says the framework has been laid out, and County staff will be working to implement the changes as soon as possible. Licensed facilities can begin applying to be part of the plan starting in April. Once they are enrolled, providers will be able to begin reducing their fees in line with the timeline set out by the government.

Lepine says that the County made preparations as soon as the announcement was made, with staff working in the child care department creating the enrollment process while the province and feds worked out a deal. The County is working quickly to get it up and running, and Lepine says staff are focused on making it happen quickly so providers can start getting enrolled.
