UPDATE: The school has since been reopened and there is no threat to the school or staff.

Madawaska Valley District High School and Sherwood Public School have been locked down.

The Renfrew County District School Board says both schools went into a “Hold and Secure”, where external doors are secure and staff and students remain inside. The decision was made around 10 AM, and staff, students and visitors are considered to be safe inside the school. The school itself is operating normally.

The school board says the decision was made as a precautionary measure after an unconfirmed threat was circulating online. The OPP is on-site at the school today and is aware of the situation.

More to come.
