Fraud calls still a problem in Bancroft

The Bancroft OPP says it continues to receive complaints about telephone fraud.

Constable Brian Goodwin says the scammers claim to be from Canada Revenue Agency or the RCMP, requesting money for owed taxes.

Goodwin explains a warning sign you may be getting a call from a scammer.

Goodwin says it’s important to remember the CRA would never request a pre-paid credit card, demand payment over the phone, or ask for information about your passport, health card, or driver’s licence.

He says if you’re in doubt about a caller, your best bet is to just hang up.
