Madawaska Valley Public Works pushing for increased waste fees

You may be paying more at the landfill site in Madawaska Valley.

Operations Manager for the Township Hilary Kutchcoskie is recommending to council that rates for construction demolition be increased. Those delivering would be subject to a new rate of $52.50 per cubic meter of waste, up from $35.

Staff is also reviewing an increase in garbage bag fees. As the price hasn’t been increased in years, staff would recommend that each tag will now cost $2 instead of $1.

In his report, Kutchkoskie points to the dramatic increase in the amount of trash going into Township landfills as the main reason to increase the bag tag rate. . He also says that compared to neighboring townships, the fees paid by residents of Madawaska Valley are very low.

Council will discuss the rate increases at their next council meeting.
