OPP Detachments urging snowmobile riders to prepare for a safe season

With snow groomers out preparing for the new season of snowmobiling, local detachments of the OPP want riders to be prepared this season.

Both Bancroft and Killaloe Detachments want riders to make sure they carry all the proper documentation when they are out on the trails. This includes a valid driver’s licence or a motorized snow vehicle licence. In addition, drivers should bring proof of ownership and insurance, as well as a valid trail permit.

In addition to wearing a helmet and obeying speed limits, the OPP wants riders to be sober, wear appropriate clothing to prevent hypothermia, and avoid unfamiliar areas at night. Make sure your cellphone is fully charged, and carry a personal safety kit.

They also remind riders that no ice is safe ice, and to exercise caution when crossing any body of water.
