Change in holiday behaviours needed to stave off worst infections, says Renfrew County Chief Medical Officer of Health

Heading into the Christmas season, Dr. Robert Cushman, Acting Chief Medical Officer of Health for Renfrew County, wants residents to rethink their holiday itinerary.

Dr. Cushman is urging people to be vigilant and limit social contacts for the next two to three weeks. While the Health Unit is rolling out booster shots, logistics in Renfrew County continue to be an issue. With arenas no longer the best sites to run mass vaccination clinics and appointments sites crashing, Cushman says the best thing to do right now is be patient. With the health unit expected to vaccinate everyone over 18, he says they are being asked to do double the work they have done in half the time they rolled out the last round of vaccinations.

Dr. Cushman indicated that there were restrictions on the way and that information on them would be released soon. He described Omicron as ominous, with a few cases already detected in Renfrew County. In some ways, Dr. Cushman says that we are in a similar position as we were in April and May of 2020.
