Name change proposed for local waterfall

A waterfall near Eganville may be called something different in the near future.

The Ontario Geographic Names Board has received a request to change the name of a river feature in the Township of North Algona Wilberforce near 4th Chute Road. The proposal aims to change the name of the feature on the Bonnechere River to Menard Falls. The Board says the Menard name has been in existence in the area for 151 years and had family members serve in Canadian military conflicts.

However, before the board can recommend the name to be changed to the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry, they must make sure the falls are not called anything else. They want to hear feedback from residents who live around the area before officially proposing the name to the ministry.
