A‌ ‌fine‌ ‌forgiveness‌ ‌program‌ ‌in‌ ‌Hastings‌ ‌Highlands‌ ‌is‌ ‌back.‌ ‌

The‌ ‌Hastings‌ ‌Highlands‌ ‌Public‌ ‌Library‌ ‌has‌ ‌restarted‌ ‌a‌ ‌program‌ ‌that‌ ‌will‌ ‌allow‌ ‌library‌ ‌users‌ ‌to‌ ‌pay‌ ‌off‌ ‌their‌ ‌late‌ ‌fees‌ ‌in‌ ‌exchange‌ ‌for‌ ‌a‌ ‌non-perishable‌ ‌food‌ ‌item.‌ ‌

The‌ ‌program‌ ‌was‌ ‌started‌ ‌in‌ ‌2019‌ ‌to‌ ‌help‌ ‌out‌ ‌the‌ ‌Maynooth‌ ‌and‌ ‌Area‌ ‌Foodbank.‌ ‌Rod‌ ‌Moffitt,‌ ‌former‌ ‌CEO‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌Library,‌ ‌said‌ ‌the‌ ‌idea‌ ‌was‌ ‌to‌ ‌bring‌ ‌back‌ ‌people‌ ‌who‌ ‌avoid‌ ‌the‌ ‌library‌ ‌because‌ ‌
of‌ ‌late‌ ‌fees‌ ‌while‌ ‌relieving‌ ‌pressure‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌food‌ ‌bank.‌ ‌

The‌ ‌program‌ ‌isn’t‌ ‌just‌ ‌open‌ ‌to‌ ‌residents‌ ‌of‌ ‌Hastings‌ ‌Highlands.‌ ‌Library‌ ‌‌staff ‌says‌ ‌anyone‌ ‌is‌ ‌welcome‌ ‌to‌ ‌donate,‌ ‌even‌ ‌if‌ ‌they‌ ‌don’t‌ ‌have‌ ‌fines.‌ ‌ ‌

Donations‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌accepted‌ ‌until‌ ‌December‌ ‌15th.‌ ‌
