A major Canadian organization will soon have an official presence in Renfrew County.

A chapter of the Council of Canadians will launch in Renfrew County on Thursday, October 28th. While some residents have come together before on issues of climate and residential school justice, this move will make the chapter officially recognized. The chapter will be called the Kitchissippi-Ottawa Valley Chapter, using the Anishinabeg name given to the Ottawa River.

The Council of Canadians is a not-for-profit grassroots organization that claims to fight for fair and sustainable trade, clean water, climate justice, democracy and public healthcare. The group has been in existence since 1985 and is currently headquartered in Ottawa.

The chapter will host an introductory session on the 28th to show the public their future plans and to field questions and concerns from the community. For more information, email [email protected].
