The Renfrew County District Health Unit is preparing for flu season.
With the Ministry of Health releasing the flu vaccine to at-risk populations this month, the Health Unit has decided to stagger the rollout of the shot this year. Those groups include pregnant women, children aged six months to four years, adults 65 years or older, Indigenous people or those with chronic health conditions. Acting Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Robert Cushman, says those who want the shot but do not fall into these groups must be patient. The full rollout of the latest flu shot will begin in November.
In the meantime, Cushman says that following public health protocols to stop the spread of COVID-19 goes a long way in preventing the spread of the flu. Things like physical distancing, hand washing and mask-wearing will help those concerned about the spread of the seasonal virus.
