Madawaska Valley Hospice Palliative Care offering new grief support group

Madawaska Valley Hospice Palliative Care (MVHPC) is offering a grief support group that’s unlike others they have put on.

The support group will be for people who have lost someone to a violent death. These include people lost to murder, suicide, or by accident. The group will give people the opportunity to talk about their experience with loss, share memories of the person who died, or discuss concerns about grief.

Dawn Cruchet, Grief Counsellor with MVHPC, felt it was worthwhile to give those who experienced this kind of loss their own group. She says the violent death of a loved one adds another level to the grief, despite the process being the same.

However, the traumatic nature of murder, suicide or accidents makes people scared to talk about it. Cruchet wants to give these people a safe, non-judgmental space so that people can talk about these events rather than bottling them up inside. She is urging people to come and try the support group, no matter how much time has passed since losing that person.

The first free session begins on Friday, September 17th. For more info, and to register, call 613-756-3045, ext. 350.
