Major parties begin to pick election candidates in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke

As the first full day of the 2021 election campaign kicks off, most of the major parties have put forward their candidates to run in the riding of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.

The candidates of each party will be taking on Conservative Party incumbent Cheryl Gallant, who has been the Member of Parliament for the riding since 2000. In the 2019 election, Gallant won 52 percent of the votes. She is currently the longest-serving woman in the federal caucus.

The Liberal Party of Canada has fielded Cyndi Mills as their candidate. She is the owner and operator of a magazine for military families and has served on committees throughout the area.

Lawyer Jodie Primeau is the candidate for the New Democratic Party. She is the owner of a law firm in Deep River.

David Ainsworth has been selected to run as the candidate for the People’s Party of Canada. The Renfrew County businessman ran for the People’s Party in 2019.

The Green Party of Canada has yet to select their candidate.
