If you ever wanted to marry people, now is your chance

The Township of South Algonquin is looking for someone who is willing to perform marriages on behalf of the municipality. Bryan Martin, CAO and Clerk-Treasurer for the Township, says that as clerk he is authorized to perform these services. However, by hiring someone to do the job for him on weekends, it frees up his time for other uses.

Whoever the Township selects will be trained to officiate weddings. Applicants must be a resident of South Algonquin are willing to give up their time to perform these ceremonies on behalf of the community. Martin says that the position is casual, but they would become an employee of the Township.

Bryant says there are two main differences between getting married in a church setting versus by the Township. Some people wish to have a non-denominational marriage, be married in the town hall, or get married quickly. In addition, the Township can perform private ceremonies that some churches may not be able to do. This allows residents to have non-denominational weddings in the place of their choosing.
