Bonnechere Valley Fire Department holding first fundraising golf tournament

The Bonnechere Valley Fire Department is hoping to raise some funds this summer with their Best Ball Golf Tournament.

They will be holding their first-ever fundraising golf tournament on Friday, July 23rd at the Whitetail Golf Club near Eganville. Keith Good, President of the Bonnechere Valley Firefighter’s Association says the money will go directly to the Fire Department. Because they are a volunteer department, they get a big chunk of their funding from Bonnechere Valley Township, which covers the majority of equipment costs. However, to get extra things that they need, they felt the need to hold a fundraiser. They haven’t decided what exactly the fundraising dollars will go towards.

Good says there has been an outpouring of support from local businesses, with sponsors including Gerbers Nursery, Kokomish Cafe and Gas Bar, Bonnechere Valley Windows, and Canadian Wood Supply among others. Because of this, they are able to offer prizes, like a hole-in-one prize, which is a Yamaha-Kodiak ATV sponsored by Pride Marine. There are prizes for things like the longest drives, as well as the “baloney hole” prize, which is awarded to who makes the worst drive off the tee. Good thinks that by offering prizes to everyone, and not just the best, it will encourage people to join.

Currently, six more teams are needed, and Good wants to reach 100 golfers. Groups of 4 can enter $100 per person or $85 for first responders, frontline workers, or golf club members.
