Those who want to show their friendship and support for the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation will have the opportunity to do so.

The First Nation will be holding a Light Up The Lake event on July 1st. They will hold a candlelight vigil on the shores of Golden Lake and beat the Algonquin Drum during the vigil. They are asking people to join them by lighting candles and placing them on the shores and docks around the Lake. The First Nation says this is a way to support them during this time.

Madawaska Valley will also light candles on the Barry’s Bay Wharf on July 1st. They ask if you are attending the fireworks ceremony to consider bringing a candle, phone or flashlight to help light up the shores of Kamaniskeg Lake. Those who are spending time at home that day are asked to light candles on their docks.

Both events start at 8:30 PM.
