The County of Renfrew will be signing on to a deal to take over a multi-million dollar rail line that will be turned into a trail system.
County council voted in favour of an agreement between Renfrew County, Lanark and the Township of Papineau-Cameron to take over the almost 300 kilometre stretch of CP Rail line from Smiths Falls to Mattawa.
The line was decommissioned in 2010 and all tracks have since been moved.
The three communities are planning on hooking up the trail with the Trans-Canada Trail in North Bay as well as a series of trails in Eastern Ontario that lead into Quebec.
In total the three communities will pay $500,000, with Renfrew County shouldering the largest portion of just over $360,000.
