Madawaska Valley Burn Ban continues despite rainy conditions.

It will take a lot more rain than what last week brought to lower the burn ban level in Madawaska Valley.

Fire Chief Corwin Quade says heavy rain will have to be ongoing for many days for the fire ban to be lowered. While the risk of fire may be low today, there is still a lot of dry fuel in some areas to warrant the fire ban staying in place.

In addition, Quade says the forecast does not show many rainy days, and hot and dry conditions will return soon. He is also concerned about the long-range forecast showing very little rain at all.

However, despite not lifting the ban for this weekend, Quade says that the ban will go back to Level 1 as soon as conditions improve. The ban is in place to protect the Township, and is not there to punish anyone.
