The County of Renfrew is planning to continue running an affordable housing project in Killaloe.

In a resolution passed at the County’s Community Services Committee, the committee will recommend to council that the corporation continues to receive resources from the municipal government. The Killaloe & District Housing Corporation runs a 28-unit apartment building on Mill Street in Killaloe. The building is rented out to seniors and is part of a Rent Geared to Income (RGI) program.

The move comes as the agreement between the Corporation and the County is tied to a mortgage that matured on May 1st 2020. As a result, the agreement with the county has also technically expired. The Committee says that because the housing complex houses so many people on an RGI program, the Corporation still needs the County’s support.

The recommendation will now go to County Council for approval later this month.
