Six townships in Renfrew County are teaming up to encourage their residents to shop local.

The new “Rural Rewards” program will offer cards that can be picked up at participating municipal offices. Cards‌ ‌can‌ ‌be‌ ‌picked‌ ‌up‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌offices‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌Townships‌ ‌of‌ ‌Bonnechere‌ ‌Valley,‌ ‌
Killaloe-Hagarty-Richards,‌ ‌Whitewater‌ ‌Region,‌ ‌Brudenell-Lyndoch-Raglan,‌ ‌North‌ ‌Algona-Wilberforce‌ ‌and‌ ‌Madawaska‌ ‌Valley.‌ ‌The‌ ‌contest‌ ‌will‌ ‌run‌ ‌until‌ ‌December‌ ‌2021.‌

Residents will bring the card to any business in the municipalities, and it will be stamped or signed by a store clerk after making a purchase. Once 10 purchases are made, the cards can be dropped off at a township office and another card can be picked up. Each participating township will do a monthly draw for a $25 gift card of the winner’s choosing.

Stephanie Plebon, Recreation & Community Development Coordinator with Madawaska Valley Township says this is just the latest in a bunch of initiatives that the townships are working together on. With the recent Snowdown contest this past winter seeing a partnership between Madawaska Valley and Killaloe-Hagarty-Richards, Plebon says it made sense for different townships to work together when they’re all doing similar things.

The townships also want to do whatever they can to support local businesses still reeling from the Pandemic. This way, Plebon hopes that everyone can shop locally so everyone wins.
