With the pandemic causing some parents to feel overwhelmed, the Pheonix Centre is offering a way to help them out.

Caregiver Connect is a collaboration between Renfrew County’s Pheonix Center, and several other organizations across Eastern Ontario to help parents who may feel isolated and need help during the pandemic. Natasha McBrearty, Associate Executive Director with the Crossroads Children’s Mental Health Centre, who runs Caregiver Connect says they offer a series of 10-15 minute meetings with conversations centred around topics like sleep, feeding difficulties, and conflict resolution. The meetings will have a peer-support component to them, something McBreatrty believes has been missing during these times. The meetings take place on Zoom, although McBrearty says the Pheonix Centre does help families with bad internet connections be part of the discussion. The meetings will give parents a way where they can connect with other parents, which has been absent with the pandemic.

However, the sessions are not just limited to discussions. Caregiver Connect also offers counselling services to small groups of families with specific problems. They will help families navigate services if they need help from specific agencies or groups. In-home support is also available for special cases. McBearty wants Caregiver Connect to offer individualized services in order to provide the be support a family needs.
