The Renfrew County District Health Unit has declared a community outbreak of COVID-19 in Madawaska Valley and Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan townships.

The Unit confirms that the 3 students who tested positive at Madawaska Valley District High School all attended the same social gathering outside the school. The unit says this is the result of a disregard for public health guidelines and urges parents to have discussions with their children about the dangers of the virus. Specifically, they want parents to stress the dangers of not only contracting the virus but in spreading it to vulnerable populations and family members. The Unit is once again urging people of all ages to restrict social gatherings to a minimum size. They will continue testing and contact tracing and warned there could be more confirmed cases in the coming days.

Mayor Kim Loves says everyone is responsible for the health and wellbeing of our community and adds just because you can do something, doesn’t make it a good idea. Mayor Sheldon Keller of Brudenell Lyndoch and Raglan says we must all take this virus seriously, and not let our guard down.
