A resident of Maple Leaf is going to be snowmobiling for charity.

Wes Oram and a group of friends will be hitting the trails for Snowmobile Ride For Mom to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society of Hastings Prince Edward. But Oram says it isn’t going to be a short trip. He plans to snowmobile from Maple Leaf to Cochrane Ontario, a trip Oram says will take the group over 1000 kilometres of Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs trails. Oram says that he has had a lot of experience snowmobiling on Northern Ontario trails, and has done long trips before. He says the team will carry extra gas and food, and they have plans if one of the team’s snowmobile breaks down. Oram says that the team could make the trip in 24 hours with appropriate stops for food and fuel, but says this timeline is not set in stone.

Oram says that he is raising money in honour of his mother, who was diagnosed with dementia. He says the programs ASHPE has offered have helped immensely in her care.

The team aimed to raise 5000$ to go towards the Alzheimer’s Society of Hastings Prince Edward, but has since surpassed that goal. Oram says that he alone has so far raised $6000 with the support of many local businesses and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. If you wish to donate, click here.

The group plan to make the thousand kilometre trip to Cochrane on February 17th, weather and trail conditions permitting.
