Bancroft Wants To Keep New OPP Billing Model

Bancroft Council is requesting the province continue with its current OPP billing model.
This comes as many municipalities are having trouble paying for the cost of police.
Bancroft Council is asking the province to continue the model since it means all municipalities contribute based on the level of calls for service from the area.
Before, hubs in which the OPP station was located would foot the bill, even if police were being sent to other communities.
Councillor Charles Mullett says this caused discrepancies when it came to property taxes.

The present OPP billing model has residents paying about $572 per household, which is still above the provincial average of $352.
Mullett says the cost of police in Bancroft is actually going down since the introduction of the new billing model.
