The 2022 Ontario Winter Games are coming to Renfrew County.
The announcement came this morning from Minister for Heritage, Tourism, Culture and Sports Lisa MacLeod, at the inaugural Renfrew County council meeting this morning, and was joined by MPP John Yakabuski and MP Cheryl Gallant. Warden Debbie Robbinson says this will be a vital boost for the county after the challenges of the Pandemic, and is expected to generate up to $6 million in economic activity. She also said that this is an opportunity to show the province what the county has to offer. Yakabuski says that tourism will not only be boosted during the games but also after they are over.
The games are expected to see more than 3000 athletes coaches and officials come to compete in the county. The county says support from the Local Municipalities Algonquins of Pikwakangan, Garrison Petawawa, Private Sector Partners and the Province will ensure the success of the games. The Province will also help out with logistics and financial support during the games.
