The City of Pembroke is set to roll out a needle disposal program.
The Finance and Administration committee approved the purchase and distribution of drop boxes.
The idea is that people will use them instead of dropping needles on the ground.
Deputy Mayor Ron Gervais says it is a necessary step to get ahead of the growing issue of used syringes being left on the ground in public places.
He stressed that it was an issue of harm reduction and that the presence of the boxes does not condone drug use.
