Charges have been laid in relation to an assault in Pembroke against an elderly woman that happened in August.

Officers at the time responded to a report of a woman struck by a rock at her residence at Isabella street. OPP now say that as a result of the investigation, a 12 year old and two 13 year olds have been charged under the Criminal code, Each have been charged with one count of assault with a weapon. The names of each of the youth have been withheld, and they will appear at the court of justice in Pembroke in November.

OPP say that the hate crime unit was consulted during the investigation due to the racial nature of the incident. They say while there may have been a racial aspect to the assault, police determined it was not a motivating factor.
