Smoking Bylaw May Be Challenged

Renfrew County’s new proposed bylaw that will restrict smoking outside of facilities may be challenged legally.
The law would make it a fineable offence to smoke within nine meters from any entrance ways, walkways or stairways of Renfrew County facilities.
The same bylaw would restrict smoking anywhere on the property of Long Term Care homes.
The concern is that the move would leave the county open to legal challenges since the Long Term Homes would be treated differently than the rest of the properties in the county.
That includes the administration building in Pembroke, Renfrew County Place, paramedic bases as well as public works garages.
