As of next week, Upper Ottawa Valley OPP will be on the hunt for loud motor vehicles.
Operation Decibel will begin on August 24th, and target vehicles causing “unnecessary noise” OPP says it was launched due to concerns of loud, illegally modified vehicles in the area. Police say that the Highway Traffic Act states that every motor vehicle must be equipped with a muffler in good working order, and prohibits the use of things like cut-outs, straight exhausted or gutted mufflers. Officers will also be on the lookout for other illegal vehicle mods, unsafe vehicle conditions, and aggressive driving.
Upper Ottawa Valley OPP says that campaign comes after outcry from the public. OPP says that the campaign is intended to address a small minority of car owners creating the noise. They say the issues has risen to the level where it is affecting resident’s quality of life.
