Another scam has surfaced in the area, according to OPP.

The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment says that the scammer calls and pretends to be from a financial institution or credit card company. The caller tells the victim that their credit card or banking info has been compromised. The caller then crates a sense of urgency and asks the victim to confirm their credit card information. In addition, OPP says that these calls are made either early in the morning or late at night to catch the victim off guard. Police say that you should be verifying the legitimacy of any caller before providing personal information.

They say if the scam artist has contacted you or you have been defrauded, to contact OPP.
