March: Colon Cancer Awareness Month

March is Colon Cancer Awarness Month, and the Haliburton health unit is encouraging you to get tested.
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit says both men and women between the ages of 50 and 74 should get screened every two years.
The health unit says men between 55 and 65 are less likely than women to be screened.
Colon cancer affects the large intestine, which is the lower part of the digestive system.
It typically progresses slowly and silently, with many patients not showing any symptoms until later stages.
The health unit says testing is quick and painless, and can help in early detection and more effective treatment.
