Greater Madawaska Township has renamed Squaw Point Road for being offensive to Aboriginals.
The Algonquins of Ontario sent a request off to council to request the name change.
Council made several attempts to have names approved by Renfrew County, and finally settled on O’Neill Point Road.
The process of approval requires new road names to be unique in the county as well as easily pronounced to avoid confusion for emergency services.
