Ontario to launch review of long-term care system

The Ontario government will launch an independent commission to investigate the province’s long-term care system.  It will also look into its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister of Long-Term Care, Merrilee Fullerton says the review will begin in September, “Our government has been clear that we will review the long-term care system to get a better understanding of the impacts and responses to the COVID-19 outbreak. Today, I am announcing that we will be launching an independent commission into Ontario’s long-term care system beginning in September.”

In her statement, Fullerton says the Ford government has been clear the long-term care system is broken.  She says over the next several months the details of the commission will be finalized.

It is the goal of the commission to provide guidance on how to improve the long-term care system and protect residents and staff from future outbreaks.
