The land claim Agreement in Principal between the Federal and Provincial governments and the Algonquins of Ontario has been ratified.
The only opposition came from Pikwakanagan as the vote passed with over 3,300 votes for and just over 200 votes against.
Over 117,000 acres of Crown land as well as $300 million is included in the Agreement in Principal.
Now that it has been ratified, it opens the door for negotiations to continue for a formal treaty.
If successful, this would be the first formal treaty signed between government and First Nations since 1921.
