The Renfrew County District School Board is looking elsewhere to solve the possibility of closing Whitney Public School.
They are talking to the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board about combining Whitney with Saint Martin of Tours.
If no deal can be reached, the students from Whitney would face close to 30 minutes of bus time each morning coming to Barry’s Bay.
Currently, Saint Martins has 21 students while Whitney has declining enrollment which is projected to drop to only 14 students in 2020.
Right now the possibility of a merger between the two schools is only in the discussion stage.
