A car stolen around Barry’s Bay wound up in a ditch, according to OPP.

Killaloe OPP says they responded to a report of a vehicle stolen just before 9 PM last Wednesday. They say an officer with the detachment spotted the vehicle a short while later on Highway 60. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled at high speed and OPP did not pursue due to safety concerns.

Upper Ottawa Valley and Renfrew OPP detachments were alerted and a search for the vehicle began. It was later found abandoned in a ditch on Ruby Road in Bonnechere Valley Township. The driver was not seriously hurt but was transported to hospital as a precaution.

A 27 year old from Golden Lake has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, operation while impaired and flight from a peace officer. They also have been charged with failure to comply with a probation order. The accused has been released from custody and will appear at the Killaloe Court of Justice in June.
