OPP: Stay Safe, Stay Home, and Stay on Shore

With the long weekend, OPP says to stay home and stay off the water.

OPP reminds the public that they will still enforce measures under the Provincial State of Emergency, which include closure of non-essential businesses and ending gatherings of more than 5 people. They do say they appreciate the public’s ongoing support for these measures.

In addition, with the warm weather, OPP say that water is still extremely cold and strong swimmers are unable to cope with cold water shock. They say if you must be on the water, share your timeline with someone you trust, check the weather and water temperature before you go out, and if its very cold, stay off the water.  OPP says that emergency situations that arise on the water or water access only locations can be stressful and dangerous for emergency responders.

OPP is encouraging the public to follow the Ministry of Health’s recommendation and avoid non-essential travel. Inspector Stephan Neufeld of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP says he is confident that our community will do their best to be socially responsible and follow recommendations when it comes to social distancing.
