Spring Melting Normal, No Signs of Flooding So Far

So far the Spring Frishet is showing no signs of massive flooding.
Madawaska Valley Township says that to date, the spring melt has been gradual due to favourable temperatures and minimal precipitation. They say the water levels are currently staying within the normal range for this time of year. Reports provided to the Township say that parts of Southern Renfrew County report very little snow, which means less melt water going into tributaries. They say while water levels have begun to increase, it is a good sign that water is getting out of the watershed  system. The Township say that while a lot of lakes are still ice covered, they are starting to lighten which means the ice is thinning.
The Ministry of Natural Resources has issued a Watershed Conditions Statement for Water Safety, as they predict that any ice on the lakes will soon break up, causing a danger for boaters and anglers. The statement did say that flooding is not expected at this time, with many larger rivers and streams already ice free.
