Proposed changes to Ontario’s tobacco and e-cigarette legislation are good news for the Ontario Lung Association.
Yesterday, Ontario’s Associate Minister of Health and Long-Term Care called for feedback on proposed amendments to the Smoke Free Ontario Act and to regulations under the Electronic Cigarettes Act.
The proposed changes include expanding no-smoking rules so they apply to medical marijuana and prohibit the use of e-cigarettes in areas where smoking tobacco is banned.
Vice-president of provincial programs with the Ontario Lung Association Andrea Stevens Lavigne says right now thats the case.
Other changes would include an expanded list of where selling e-cigarettes is banned, set rules for the display and promotion of e-cigarettes, and prohibit the testing of e-cigarettes in places where they are sold.
Stevens Lavigne says the proposed changes should only take a couple of weeks of consultations before being brought into effect.
In Madawaska Valley, the Renfrew County District Health Unit will be in charge of enforcing the new rules.
