Rural Mayor’s Forum Tackling OPP Costs

The Rural Mayor’s Forum of Eastern Ontario met again last Friday to tackle the OPP pricing model that is impacting smaller communities.
The model changed last year and is rolling out over the next five years with two components.
The first is a base fee for policing services calculated by a municipality’s commercial and residential size.
The second component is for calls for service.
Madawaska Valley Mayor Kim Love says that the numbers are a bit skewed.

From last year until now, she says the OPP is counting 83 more households in Madawaska Valley.
Mayor Love only sees a growth of 12 new households and one new business over the same time period.
